The Clinical Challenge

Navigating Complex Curls.

Hair restoration for Afro-textured hair is highly specialized. Unlike straight hair, the follicle curves significantly beneath the scalp. Standard extraction methods used by inexperienced clinics often sever the root, leading to failed grafts and poor density.

Furthermore, female hair loss in this demographic is frequently caused by traction alopecia—damage to the frontal hairline and edges due to tight braiding, weaving, or chemical relaxing. At Liverpool Hair Transplant Clinic, our elite surgeons utilize modified micro-punches and specific extraction angles to safely harvest curved follicles, ensuring maximum survival and a beautifully restored, natural edge.

Why Choose LHTC Liverpool

Clinical Advantages.

Edge Reconstruction

Expertly repairing the damage caused by traction alopecia. We rebuild your hairline and temples using fine, single-hair grafts for an undetectable transition.

High Graft Viability

Our modified FUE technique safely navigates the curved anatomy of Afro hair follicles beneath the skin, drastically reducing transection (damage) rates during harvesting.

Discreet Recovery

We prioritize your privacy. Depending on the size of the transplant, we can often perform the procedure without shaving the recipient area, allowing your existing hair to conceal the surgical site.

Expert Insights

Afro Restoration FAQs.

Do I have to shave my head for the surgery?
No. This is a primary concern for many of our female patients. Depending on the number of grafts required to repair your edges or parting, we can often perform a partially shaven procedure where only a small "window" at the back of the scalp is shaved. Your natural, longer hair completely covers this area immediately after surgery.
Am I at risk of keloid scarring?
Patients with Afro-Caribbean skin types do have a statistically higher risk of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. We mitigate this by using the minimally invasive FUE method (rather than cutting a strip of skin via FUT) and utilizing very fine micro-punches. We also review your full medical history during the consultation to ensure surgical safety.
Can traction alopecia be cured?
If caught early, stopping the tight hairstyles may allow the hair to regrow. However, if the constant tension has caused permanent follicular death and scarring over many years, the hair will not return naturally. In these cases, an FUE transplant is the only effective, permanent cure to restore the hairline.
